The Fort Rotterdam is located in Jl Ujung Pandang No.1 Makassar, not far from Losari Beach. Fort rotterdam or Fort Ujung Pandang are ommision of Gowa Empire in 17th century. The first port which looked like tortoise was built on 1545 by The 9th King of Gowa, I Marigau Daeng Bonto Karaeng Lakiung or famous as Karaeng Turipallangga.
It is a Dutch fort to keep a copy of an episode of I La Galigo. La Galigo is a world’s longest epic poem. A greatest literary works longer than the story of the Mahabharata and Ramayana. It is a documentary heritage which describes Bugis civilization in the 13-15 century, with ancient Bugis language and letters written by the ancient Lontara.
There is one building in the complex is related to the memory of the world other candidates proposed by Indonesia. Prince Diponegoro, one of Indonesian heroes, occupied one of the room in the complex of Fort Rotterdam. The Prince who was in exile, or more precisely imprisoned by the Dutch colonists, died on January 8, 1855 and was buried in Makassar.
