Categories: Art and Culture, West Java

Jaipong Dance is a traditional dance from West Java. The cheerful, energic, and humoristic movements of the dance make the dance famous and unique.  There four movements in the dance, those are opening, pencungan, ngala, and, mincit. In the opening, the dancers, who are mostly women, walk around by playing the stole on their shoulders. In the pencungan, the dancers dance in quick movement with fast-tempo music. In the ngala, the dancers dance in sporadic movements. Mincit is a quick shifting of one movement to other movement and must be done after Ngala. The dance is often performed in celebrations.
