Sambal is sauce made from any variety of chili  and mixed with secondary ingredients such as shrimp paste, garlic, ginger, shallot, scallion, sugar, lime juice, sweet soy sauce, rice vinegar, tomato, mango, durian, gandaria or many other things. The variety of sambal recipes depend on the region and the main food served with it.
