This dance is one of the most famous art from Minangkabau. Tari piring (plate dance) is done by put plates on hand palms of the dancer while s/he dancing. At first, the dance is a ritual for presenting God offerings which is food on the plate as a form of gratitude. After the arrival of Islam, plate dance is not used as a ritual practice anymore but as a performance to entertain people in special occasions. The accompanist music of the dance is usually performed by traditional intrument of Minangkabau such as Talempong and Saluang.
