Mesjid Raya is built in 18th century as an evidence of Siak kingdom in Pekanbaru under the rule of Sultan Abdul Jalil Alamuddin Syah (Marhum Bukit – the forth Sultan) and Sultan Muhammad Ali Abdul Jalil Muazzan Syah (Marhum Pekan – the fifth Sultan). In the area of the mosque, there is a well which is believed is magical and able to grant wishes asked. Still in the same area, the visitor can also see the grave of Marhum Bukit and Marhum Pekan which is known as the founder of Pekanbaru.
