Aceh Tsunami Museum

The enormous Indian Ocean tsunami occurred in 2004 kills about 230.000 people in fourteen countries including Indonesia and the most devastating area is Aceh. To the memory of the catastrophe, Aceh Tsunami was built in 2009 by an Indonesian architect, Ridwan Kamil. The museum functions as an educational center about earthquake and tsunami as well as an emergency shelter if at any time such disaster happens again. The architecture of the museum symbolizes the tsunami as the waves of the sea which is symbolized by the roof and the survive traditional house of Aceh is formed by the floor of the museum.
