Arau Valley is a canyon near Payakumbuh in Limapuluh Koto district, West Sumatra. The canyon is flanked by two steep rock ridge reaching 150 feet height. Many climbers who have visited the canyon call it as the Indonesian Yosemite. A monument which is Netherlands’ heritage located in the foot of the SarasahBunta waterfall proves that the canyon has already visited since 1926. It is also a sanctuary as a habitat of numerous tropical rainforest plant species and rare animals native to Sumatra such as long tail monkey (Macaca fascirulatis).
